In Palermo, an experience not to be missed! A street food tour that will give you the chance to appreciate the rich culinary tradition of the city. Here, food is an experiential journey around the Mediterranean.

Palermo has absorbed numerous cultural and gastronomic influences, becoming one of the most eclectic cities in the world. During the tour, you will taste some of the most famous local street food specialties: typical rosticceria, chickpea panelle and potato croquettes, arancine, sfincione with onion and cheese, and the unmissable ricotta "cannolo." We will understand that food should not only be tasted but also perceived through sight, touch, smell, and why not, even sound: think of the sound made by a crunchy arancina when bitten into.

  • Location | Meeting 15 minutes before the start of the tour at Piazza Ruggiero Settimo, in front of the entrance of the Teatro Politeama
  • Duration | Approximately 3 hours, a 2 km walking route with free time for individual visits to the Cathedral
  • Minimum number of participants | 10 adult

WHAT TO EXPECT

Starting from Piazza Politeama, we will walk along Via Ruggero Settimo, the living room of the bourgeois city from the 18th and 19th centuries, where we will make our first stop at a typical Palermo rotisserie. After satisfying our eyes by admiring the Teatro Massimo, we will delve into the colors and aromas of the historic Mercato del Capo, one of the oldest and most characteristic markets in Palermo. Here, you will experience the Arab souk, among the colorful stalls and the traditional "abbanniata," the chatter of vendors trying to attract customers. Enchanted by the sight and smell of fresh products, from fish to colorful fruits, from vegetables to fragrant spices, we will stop at a renowned fry shop for another tasting. Upon reaching the monumental Cathedral, we will dedicate some time to visiting the interior, preparing for another tasting at a historic café nearby. In short, a midway stop to atone for our gluttony, which we will resume as soon as we leave the church.

We will continue to Cassaro, the ancient street of the historic center lined with churches, noble palaces, and large convents, admiring the baroque Piazza dei Quattro Canti and the Renaissance Fontana della Vergogna. We will share stories about the delicacies that cloistered nuns made in their convents, the exuberant cuisine of the gattopardi, and how it was reinterpreted by the common people. We will enter a monastery to conclude our gastronomic tour with the inevitable and caloric typical sweet.

The visits will be mostly external (except for the Cathedral), focusing primarily on street food and tastings.

The street food tour will be led by local food experts who will share with participants the secrets and curiosities of Palermo's cuisine, offering an authentic and unforgettable experience.
